Our Dental Implant Process
Three Steps to Restore Your Smile
If you want to restore your smile with dental implants, Dr. Munro can complete your procedure in just three steps. Explore our guide to the dental implant process so you can know exactly what to expect during treatment.
Initial Consultation
The first step to your new smile is scheduling a consultation with Dr. Munro. During this visit, he’ll examine your teeth, gums, and jawbone to determine if dental implants are the best treatment for you. He’ll also answer any questions you have about the procedure.
If you suffer from gum recession or jawbone deterioration, Dr. Munro can help you qualify for implants with a supplemental procedure. Most commonly, these include bone grafting or gum disease treatment.
Implant Placement
Once he determines you’re ready, Dr. Munro will place the titanium implant fixture directly in your jaw. We’re happy to offer sedation for patients who need help to relax and feel comfortable.
After your implant is placed, your jaw will need three to six months to heal. This allows time for osseointegration, the process of your implant fusing with your jawbone to replace the natural tooth root.
Final Restoration
When your jaw has fully healed, Dr. Munro will attach your permanent crown, bridge, or denture. No matter which restoration you choose, it will be customized to blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth for a stunning smile.
Once your implant treatment is complete, you can finally eat, speak, and smile with total confidence. Best of all, your implant can last a lifetime with proper care.
Frequently Asked Questions
Receiving dental implants is a virtually painless process. At your initial consultation with Dr. Munro, he’ll discuss your preference for dental sedation, which is ideal for patients with dental anxiety or resistance to local anesthetic alone. A member of our team will monitor you during your procedure to ensure you’re comfortable and at ease. While you may experience mild discomfort once the numbness subsides, any pain should fade within a few days. In the meantime, you can use over-the-counter pain relievers or a cold compress to easily alleviate any soreness. It’ll typically take three to six months for the dental implant process to be complete. However, this depends on your personalized treatment plan and your oral health. Some patients may require undergoing a supplemental treatment before receiving a dental implant, which will lengthen the treatment and healing time. Dr. Munro will provide you with an estimated treatment timeline at your initial consultation. A patient’s recovery time depends on several factors, such as how many implants they received and the state of their oral health. It could take between six and eight months to fully recover from a dental implant procedure. However, most patients can resume their normal activities and diet after about one week. During the healing phase, a process known as osseointegration will take place, where your implants slowly fuse with your jawbone to ensure a stable fit. This typically takes between three and six months to complete. Once your implant has completely fused with your jawbone, you’ll return to our Parkview office for your final restoration fitting.Does receiving dental implants hurt?
